OKTAL is going to set up one of the greatest worldwide motor car driving simulators in China.

Resulting from a contract signed in 2009 further to an international call for tender, this motor car driving simulator will be used for the studies led by the department " Transport and Facilities " at Tongji University, one of the oldest and most prestigious higher education and research Chinese institutions.

In the Top 3 at the world level, the objective of this driving simulator is to study drivers' reaction under complicated driving conditions as well as to estimate drivers' psychology and behaviour in reaction to new road facilities features, driving circumstances and system man-machine interfaces.

This giant simulator is composed of a dome made in composite structure, a movement system of 8 degrees of freedom (8 DoF), a complete car and a display system allowing a big field of vision (more than 250 °). It exploits the last version of SCANeR ^TM studio software.

The system is under integration only with its dynamic platform 6DoF in OKTAL factory in Toulouse until the middle of June 2010. Then it will be dismantled and sent in China for the final integration with the complete dynamic platform (8DoF). After the adjustment stage, the driving simulator will be ready for the first experiments which will be undertaken at the end of 2010.
Always concerned about satisfying its customers' needs, OKTAL worked in close collaboration with Tongji University to develop the project.

The DGA Essais en vol trusts OKTAL for Mirage trainers

The French governmental organisation for armament programs and test flights based in Istres (France) has selected OKTAL for the implementation of Mirage 2000 D and 2000-5 trainers.
Realized in collaboration with the DGA, these trainers will contribute to the training of French Air Force pilots on the terminal MIDS. This one allows planes in patrol to display and pass on tactical information through the connection L16.
This new success strengthens Oktal's position as supplier of procedure trainers for military aircraft.

French Marine has selected SCANSIM simulator to air traffic controlers training

Following an international call for tenders, French Marine has selected SCANSIM simulator (www.scansim.com) to air traffic controler training. This simulator will be commissioned in September 2010 in Hyères naval air base. Three additional simulators will be supply in other french naval air bases in 2011. Each simulator is compouned on two (2) trainer station with a large 3D visual system of 120° and one instructor station.

This project will be realised in partnership with EGISAVIA and INEO Defense companies, partners of SCANSIM simulator in the frame of SIMULAVIA GIE.

SNCF has selected OKTAL for supplying 120 units of driver training simulators.

Following an international call for tenders, SNCF has selected OKTAL to supply 120 cutting edge driver training simulators. This contract is the most important one regarding the number of units ever purchased by SNCF.
These simulators will be based on the latest generation of OKTAL small range driver training simulator and will be constituted by a simplified dash board and three monitors for 3D viewing and virtual instrumentation.
Based on the latest version of OKSimRail^TM software they will enable SNCF to provide their drivers with high level training courses for safe and efficient operation.
The simulators will be commissioned in 30 training centers in France.

Fabrice CARLIER, Head of driving simulator purchasing at SNCF said « We chose OKTAL due to innovation and relevance of its solution in addition to its raisonnable price.
This is a major project for SNCF because it will enable us to start continual vocational and skill enhancement training of more than 15300 drivers. This is also a challenge for OKTAL who will need to commissione all the driving simulators within 6 months after having finished the design phase.

OKTAL Sales&Marketing director Pascal COUCHAT explained that " after having been the first supplier of a driver training simulator for SNCF with the Eurostar simulator in 1992, OKTAL will become, with this contract, the first supplier of SNCF regarding the number of driver training simulators. This confirms that we have our sights set on becoming a leading actor especially in the French market in addition to the quality of our products. As SNCF is one of the most famous and important operator in the world, we are very proud to contribute to the quality improvement of its drivers' training."

The RoadXML format : an opensource initiative from OKTAL for road networks description

During the last RSS2009 conferency and the 14th SCANeR User Group, OKTAL has announced the RoadXML format, a new initiative dedicated to open its own file format resulting from the compilation of proprietary formats.

The ambitions of the RoadXML are :

- to take part to the standardization of road network format in order to enhance the the interopérabilité between the simulator,

- to improve the content of the road networks format to fulfill with the objectives of the future transport and mobility in respect with sustainable development and to buid more realistic and efficient civil and military training,

- to develop a unique gateway between driving simulators and traffic engineering applications.
